A Fresno landmark, Kogetsu-Do Confectionary has survived in the same downtown location for 98 years and counting. Sugimatsu Ikeda and his wife opened the business in 1915 on Kern Street which he later moved to its current location on F Street in 1920. When the outbreak of World War II, they were sent to Jerome, Arkansas, but was able to return to the same building after the war. Sons Roy and Masao carried on the business. When Roy died, Masao and his wife Dorothy Ikeda took over the store. After Masao died their daughter, Lynn Ikeda, continues the family's legacy. She still uses the same family's recipe but with her own contemporary twist. Her specialties are the mochis with fresh fruit, ice cream, and chocolate toffees. Kogetsu-Do bakery, is the only one of its kind in the San Joaquin Valley.
